Janison Edge - The Services Of Mary Goode

We know he really knows how to play the bass. In Shadowland he also played acoustic guitar. Ian Salmon has been playing the guitar since he was 14 years old. Curious about him playing electric guitar? Have a listen to the album The Services Of Mary Goode by the band Janison Edge.

Background
Janison Edge started a couple of years ago as a song writing partnership between Sue Element and Mike Varty (Shadowland) who got together with Ian Salmon, Dave Wagstaffe (Landmarq) and Paul Brown (Medicine Man) in 1997. These people worked together to produce the album The Services Of Mary Goode that was released in February 1999. Jane Bryan made the beautiful cover painting. The album
The first song A Twist In The Tale Of Earth History starts with a quiet keyboard intro, after that the guitar starts in a nice tempo. Then Sue comes in with a beautiful melody that you can’t get out of your head. It’s a song with a lot of changes and with a great keyboard solo.

Oldman is a very quiet song with just piano and vocals, very nice. Beneath The Boy starts with a beautiful guitar intro. It’s a real symfo-track including a heavy keyboard solo, which reminds me a lot of Shadowland. The title track of this album consists of four tracks, tracks four, five, six and nine of the CD: The Services of Mary Goode, The Birth Of Mary Goode, Mary Goode And The Dwarf Of Dreams and The Day That I Fell. The first and the third are quiet songs with a lot of vocals. The Birth Of Mary Goode tells the story of Mary’s birth from her own point of view. The tracks starts of with lots of guitar and keyboard and then the vocals start very quietly. The rest of the song varies a lot as well.

Before the last part of The Services… begins we can listen to the unique Joker and the ballad-like song Julie Lies. Joker is an adventerous and very original song. Julie Lies begins quietly with nice accompaniments of mostly the piano. Slowly it goes to a climax with a many-voiced backing-vocal-choir at the end.

The last song is also the last part of The Services…; The Day That I Fell. In this epic song we hear again a lot of guitar and keyboard solo’s and a lot of backing vocals. Shortly a great track to end this nice piece of neo-progressive rock.

Since I am an enthusiastic (amateur) singer in my spare time I like it a lot that there’s another female vocalist who sings to beautiful symphonic rock music. The Services Of Mary Goode is definitely beautiful!
