Contagion
– The Impact Some
first impressions… John
Mitchell intro: This is our new album… And it’s good!! Erik
B: Errr.... It’s hardly possible to find words that can do this album
justice. Riveting, dark, moving, rousing, magisterial, complex,
superb... Hanneke:
…WOW… Erik
M: Overwhelming. And too short… This may go on for hours and hours. Joke:
Thrilling and impressive. Mature. After listening to it you need silence
to process what you’ve just heard. You don’t want to put on any
other CD, nor the album itself, for an hour or so... Marcel: It’s an
adventure! Monique:
complex, lots of variety, heavy, several very impressive passages. It
will take some time before it becomes a cohesive piece, but that’s a
major compliment!! CD’s which sound great the first time you listen to
them usually start to get boring very soon, they lack depth... At
the eleventh hour, the band and the
Cage decided to invite some members as well. We selected three at random
and – because he lives nearby - Tom Klijnsmit was the only one who
could attend. His impression: It
was Tuesday the 10th of September when I came home after school. I
checked my email, and there was a mail from The Cage, asking me to call
Marcel. So I did, a couple of times, but he wasn’t home. In the
evening I tried again and then finally he picked up the phone. He asked
whether I wanted to come over to his place on Saturday to hear Contagion
for the very first time! Of course I wanted to come! So
Saturday evening I went, together with my dad, to Marcel. John Mitchell,
Clive Nolan and Paddy Darlington were there too. Then, finally, when
everyone had arrived, the CD was turned on, and everyone was quiet for
about an hour. Already after the first track, Witch Hunt, I knew it:
WOW! This album is really, really good!!! This feeling just went on an
on through the album, every track is just great! It has such an
unmistakeable ‘Arena-sound’
in it! Really good! The artwork is just beautiful as well! Arena did a
very good job on this one, just like all the other albums... Right
now, I have no words for this album, I just want to hear it again! Arena,
The Cage, thanks very much for this unforgettable evening! |
