ABOUT THE CAGE

The Cage is the official worldwide Arena community providing news and backgrounds about everything Arena through this website and e-newsletters.

With the release of Songs From The Lions Cage back in 1995, The Cage started as the official Arena fanclub, initially under the name Arena Europe Info. In July 1995 the first issue of the fanzine The Cage appeared and in 1996 the name of the fanclub itself was changed accordingly into The Cage. Incidentally, the header of the fanzine editiorial inspired the title of the track Welcome To The Cage on Pride.

Besides the regular fanzine, The Cage released four exclusive fanclub albums (Welcome Back! To The Stage in 1997, The Visitor Revisited in 1999, Unlocking The Cage in 2001 and Radiance in 2003) and six fanclub videos/DVD's (Lionhearted in 1997, Open Your Eyes in 1998, The Story Of My Life and Never Alone in 1999, The Cage Unlocked in 2001 and Rising Up! in 2004). The latter three document the Cage fanmeetings, including a full Arena show, that were held in The Netherlands. Plans for the release of the fifth Cage album, a Contagion Max 2-cd version with the EP tracks included, were made but eventually put on hold due to time constraints and other priorities of the band.

In December 2004 the final issue of the fanzine (number 33) appeared and The Cage changed into a web-based fanclub. On the 12th of December 2009, exactly ten years after Arena's first official gig at The Classic Rock Society, the official Arena biography The Salt And The Sand by Jan-Jaap de Haan and Erik Beers was made available at the Cage website in pdf-format.

Following the band's example, The Cage more or less went on hiatus, though still providing updates about Arena developments and the solo activities 'outside the cage'. Also, more and more of the contents of the fanzines is being made available at the website, thus creating an extensive archive of the Arena history. In 2007 Clive started a discussion on the forum The Shattered Room about possible futures and shapes of the fanclub, but no definite plans have been made.
