IMMORTAL
TOUR 2000
Amsterdam,
Holland, Paradiso, 17 October
Report from Amsterdam: Last night was a true triumph! The Paradiso was
packed with people and there was a real party atmosphere. There were
people everywhere, even the balconies were full of Arena fans. After
"Moviedrome" we just heard this big roar from the audience,
they absolutely loved it and definitely let us know they did! To see a
floor packed with people - all the way to the back rows - singing along
with your songs, that's got to be the best feeling in the world, and we
certainly got a lot of that in Amsterdam. We played well and were asked
to play an extra encore, this wonderful audience simply didn't want to
let us go! The atmosphere was electric and we did a bunch of 'thank
you's' to all the people who have helped us during this tour in all
sorts of ways. During "Crying For Help VII", the Pain Of
Salvation boys helped out with the singing on stage, a real party!
It was also during this particular song, the Mysterious Naked Sock Man
appeared. A figure wearing only Rob's cloak, a 'scream' mask and a sock
suddenly appeared behind the keyboards (a hint; it wasn't Clive). Paddy,
the guitar tech, was seen gliding across the stage floor, limbo dancing
under the keyboards, grabbing the sock and throwing it out to the
audience, which parted to avoid any contact with the 'item'. The
Mysterious Naked Sock Man had to make do sockless! To sum the evening up;
it was the perfect finishing gig!

A review of the gig, by Maarten Goossensen:
Well what should I say off the Amsterdam Gig ? In my opinion it was a
milestone in the history off ArenA. It’s practically impossible to
write something about this gig, but I will try.
Paradiso is definitely
a beautiful place, and the sound was very good. My friends and I, found
a great spot, on the balcony, so we could see everything perfectly.
Again the gig started with Pain of Salvation, in my opinion it sounded
better than in Rijssen.
Then it was finally
time for Arena. The gig started with the beautiful "Moviedrome";
wow that song really rocks! Then they played some songs of "The
visitor" and "Songs from the lionscage" followed by
"The butterfly man" and "Fridays Dream". Every song
was performed perfectly and you could see that the guys had a great
time, playing them. The crowd that evening was great, everybody did sing
along and frequently all the hands were in the air, it feld like being a
member off one big arena-family. Highlights of the evening, for me,
where "Chosen", and "Solomon"; in my opinion it was
a bit aggressive version this time, but still great to hear. At the end
of the evening they played "Jericho" (with a jumping crowd).
Clive and Rob came back to the stage, to thank everyone off the crew and
the cage. Then they played their last song, the Cry for help medley:
party-time! Everybody off the crew, and the guys of Pain of salvation,
joined the Arena-guys including a bare naked (!!!) crew member, well…..
bare naked, the only thing he wore, was a "scream" mask.
This was really a
great gig! And I want to thank ArenA for all the great gigs, that they
have given over the last three weeks. Especially this gig in Amsterdam,
it wasn’t just a gig……… it was a monument!
Thanks for the music
guys!
